In addition to our Ph.D. program in Visual/Cognitive Neuroscience, NDSU offers the Ph.D. in Health/Social psychology and a M.S. degree in Clinical Psychology. We offer a modest teaching load of 3 semester courses per year, and faculty are able to teach courses in their area of specialty.

Qualifications: The minimum qualifications for the position are: Ph.D. degree, strong potential for high-quality research using human subjects, strong potential and interest in generating external funding for research program, teaching competence in courses in a specialty area and within our curriculum (e.g., undergraduate and graduate level statistics), ability to interact effectively with colleagues and students, and effective oral and written communication skills.

We have a congenial faculty who are supportive of productive research programs and quality instruction. All faculty members are involved in supervising graduate and undergraduate research, and directing graduate and undergraduate theses. We have excellent human research facilities and start-up funds. Additional information about the department and NDSU is available at: http://www.ndsu.nodak.edu/ndsu/psychology.

NDSU is located in Fargo-Moorhead, a pleasant, safe, and growing community of approximately 190,000. As the largest population center in the region, Fargo-Moorhead is a center for entertainment, finance and medical services serving a large geographic area. Two universities (North Dakota State University and Minnesota State University Moorhead) and one private liberal arts college (Concordia College) are located in the Fargo-Moorhead (F-M) area. The F-M area has a healthy economy (ND has a budget surplus), good public schools, low crime rates, ample shopping, local theatre and music companies, several art galleries, semi-professional baseball and hockey, and Division I intercollegiate athletics. Hector International Airport in Fargo is convenient and served by several major airlines. Sun, clear skies, and clean air predominate the year round. Summers tend to be dry and very pleasant with occasional hot stretches. Winters are cold, though snowfall is moderate. Outdoor sports and activities are popular year-round. Canoeing, camping, cycling, softball, and soccer are popular in summer; winter pastimes include cross-country skiing, skating, and snowmobiling. The city has an excellent park system that includes several quality golf courses and bicycle/running paths along the Red River, which spans most of the city and becomes a ski trail during colder months. Fargo is an hour's drive from a major resort area in the Minnesota "lakes country" and two hours from scenic Itasca State Park (headwaters of the Mississippi river) and its wilderness areas. Central and western North Dakota offer beautiful hiking, camping, fishing, hunting, and related opportunities in the Badlands, national grasslands, and numerous river valleys. Winnipeg, Manitoba is less than a four-hour drive to the north and Minneapolis-St. Paul is an equal distance to the southeast.

To Apply: Send a cover letter describing research and teaching interests and accomplishments, a curriculum vita, copies of representative publications and other supporting materials, and available summaries of teaching evaluations. Also include the names, phone numbers, post-mail, and e-mail addresses of three potential references. This search will be conducted in compliance with North Dakota's open-records law.
