How to Make a Survey/Questionaire
- Decide what information you wish to collect -
what did you find in your libarary research?
- Decide what type of survey, the type of
response scale, how are you going to analyze the data?
- Write a draft - get your ideas down on
paper
- Reexamime each question, revise or omit
questions - the order of questions correct? (beliefs before behaviors)
- Pretest the survey on a few people to discover
ambiguities and problems
- Revise the questions as needed - do they make
sense to readers?
- Finalize the procedure you will use to collect
data (e.g., sampling)
Be aware of social desirability
- Consider the design and the order of
questions
- - use simple vocabulary
- - avoid double barreled questions (are you
dumb and stupid?)
- - make questions brief
- - avoid leading questions (normal folks
think this, what do you think?
- - avoid loaded questions (no emotionally
charged words like dumb or stupid)
